Locally grown and produced foods are fresh, and fresh is synonymous with
healthy.  Health conscious people are willing to make the little extra
effort to source  food grown and produced locally. At Locals Restaurant,
we are about celebrating the uniqueness of the Comox Valley and
Vancouver Island, and hold a strong belief in local environmental
sustainability and quality. We are dedicated to providing a quality
dining experience through our strong connections with local food
producers in order to provide quality products, offered with heartfelt
service.

Locals restaurant is committed to closing the producer-consumer gap by through
putting a name to all our local suppliers and identifying them on our
menus. Since opening in 2008, Locals has set a new standard for the
Comox Valley’s renowned food culture.

In May 2013 Locals moved into the newly remodeled Comox Valley Heritage building
known to local residents as THE OLD HOUSE. Great care was given to
preserve as much of the original building as possible and to blend the
newer addition with the old as much as possible. The Old House is valued
as an eclectic example of Arts and Crafts architecture in Courtenay
during the city’s first post-war expansion. Constructed in 1938 as a
residence for the Kirk family, the house features locally-produced wood
construction with masonry detailing. The original occupants of the
building were prominent members of the community. Geoff Kirk operated a
highly successful oil business from the dock of his riverfront property,
while Kath Kirk initiated the ‘Mile of Flowers’ campaign in 1969, now a
renowned annual event in Courtenay, which draws over a thousand
volunteers to plant flowers along the mile-long Cliffe Avenue corridor. 

Everyone who
works at Locals is passionate about the quality of life in the Comox
Valley. All team members are recognized and valued for their distinct
contributions, and are integral to Locals operation.
